Jesse Leeds is BGI’s Director of Global Security & Risk. Jesse has over ten years of experience in the US Federal Government, most recently as an Operations Officer for the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and before that as an employee with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI). In Jesse’s role as an Operations Officer, he supported national security and conceptualized, planned, and conducted intelligence operations. In his role as an Operations Officer, Jesse won six CIA Exceptional Performance Awards. Jesse routinely dealt with problems requiring quick-thinking and creative, practical solutions under high-stress conditions. At BGI, Jesse specializes in insider threat, high-risk travel, crisis management, disaster planning and response, investigations, security project management, and government consulting.
While at the CIA, Jesse supported sensitive short-fused operations, conducted intelligence operations overseas, and recruited multiple foreign assets. The collected intelligence was used in the President’s Daily Brief (PDB) and addressed gaps in the U.S. Government’s understanding of key issues. He concurrently managed numerous intelligence assets pursuing a range of operational objectives, including counterterrorism, counterproliferation, and counterintelligence. He worked to counter extremist groups in the Middle East and Africa, including al-Qaeda, ISIS, and the Taliban. Jesse clandestinely spotted, assessed, developed, recruited, and handled assets with access to vital foreign intelligence. Jesse is a graduate of CIA’s Field Tradecraft Course and has been trained in overseas security, proliferation, and insider threat.
During Jesse’s time at FBI, he supported the FBI’s Tactical Operations Center, Evidence Response Team, and SWAT Operations. In addition, he assisted with criminal investigations, terrorism analysis, and intelligence projects. While at the FBI, Jesse began his study in intelligence by completing courses in HUMINT Tradecraft, Introduction to the Intelligence Program, and Introduction to Espionage.
He is a member of ASIS International, the leading organization for security professionals worldwide. Jesse also has language skills and regional expertise in the Middle East, which includes Arabic language at the intermediate level. Jesse earned a Bachelor of Arts in International Security and Conflict Resolution and a minor in Arabic and Islamic Studies from San Diego State University. His coursework included international security, conflict resolution, and criminal justice courses. He also spent one year of study in Cairo, Egypt, and spent additional time traveling throughout Syria, Jordan, Bahrain, Israel, and the United Arab Emirates.
